Where littles ones take their first kick
Our tiny tigers program gives your youngest martial artist a fun, safe introduction to Songahm Taekwondo.
Taekwondo
Taekwondo helps kids build confidence, respect, and self-discipline. Through structured belt progressions, they learn goal-setting, how to focus, and how to persevere. Classes are fun and active, improving coordination, balance, and physical fitness while encouraging social interaction and teamwork.

Kuntaw
Kuntaw introduces kids to the cultural roots of Filipino martial arts while teaching them practical self-defense through smooth, flowing movements. It improves coordination and timing, and helps children think quickly under pressure. The art's rhythm-based techniques also enhance body awareness and agility.

Women’s kickboxing & conditioning
Kickboxing helps kids channel energy in a positive way, promoting discipline and fitness while keeping them engaged and having fun. It builds cardiovascular strength, agility, and self-confidence. Kids learn coordination, rhythm, and how to respectfully manage their power in a safe setting.

6 Reasons Families Choose Martial Arts Grand Traverse
From first kicks to black belts, MAGT builds skills that last a lifetime. Whatever your age or program, our classes develop the whole person on the mat and far beyond it.
Confidence
Every kick, punch, and belt gives little ones a chance to succeed and feel proud. That early sense of “I can do it” builds a foundation of self-belief they’ll carry into school and new friendships.
Respect
From bowing on the mat to listening to their instructors, tiny tigers learn to be kind and courteous. Good manners become second nature at class, at home, and everywhere in between.
Self-discipline
Through structured belt progressions, children learn to follow instructions, wait their turn, and set little goals. It’s self-control taught in a way that feels fun, not forced.
Focus and coordination
Active, playful classes help young martial artists improve their balance, timing, and body awareness. From Taekwondo forms to Kuntaw’s flowing movements, they learn to concentrate and think on their feet.
Perseverance
Little ones learn that trying again is part of getting better. Every new skill teaches them to keep going, bounce back from mistakes, and celebrate the progress they earn.
Friendship and teamwork
Classes are social, encouraging, and full of fun. Tiny tigers make new friends, cheer each other on, and discover the joy of being part of a team from the very start.
